  • ICP testing for elements in Trace

Another ICP question.....we dose Trace with our Neptune system over the course of the day. For a 300g mixed reef tank (LPS corals, fish, inverts) we dose 20 ml a day, do automatic 1% water change daily, 20% water change monthly. Is ICP testing a valid method to determine if we are adding too much/too little Trace?

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the post, NanJ0508!
I think ICP is fine to determine the frequency of trace dosing. But keep in mind some of the elements (manganese, vanadium, and cobalt for instance) that are tested, are near the limit of detection for the ICP tests, so they may not tell much. But something like Zinc might be a good indicator or “canary in the coal mine”.

    I hope this helps!
