  • Plant Substrate

I have a few Echinodorus bleheri in a Discus tank. They are planted in the sand substrate with just root balls to support them. Lighting is low with red/blue LED most of the day with 3 hours of T5 lighting. I would like to support the plans a little more without affecting my water column (no water treatment, no CO2). I have a green algae issue on the sand substrate. I have been thinking of re-planting into tubs which can contain plant substrate. Which substrate would you recommend?

    Re: Plant Substrate

Any of the Flourite substrates would work well. There are slight differences in the mineral content between the different colors, but most plants will grow well in any of them, so I would go with the one which you think looks best. You can also use Flourish Tabs to feed the roots.
