  • Correct Formula for Alkaline Buffer and Acid Buffer To Rise KH and Keep PH.

    Hello guys.

I Almost killed all my fishes and also burned some plants trying to Rise my dKH from 1 to 6. No matter what doses I try, I always end with max 3 dKH and my PH for sure above 7.5. (Im using labcon test kit).

So, my tap water usualy is around 7.0 and 0,5 dKH. I´m trying to reach 6 dKH and keep my PH at max 7.0. How can I achive this with Buffers?

    My aquarium is 100 liters.

    My last dose was:

    15,7 grams of Alkaline Buffer
    8 grams of Acid Buffer

This made almost all my fishes die, and also burned a lot of plants.

Sorry for the delay and for your troubles with the Acid and Alkaline Buffers!

Since the ratios are meant to be used with RO water, it is best to do trial and error testing on your tap water in a smaller volume of water before adding them to your tank. The ratios may be slightly different due to the buffering capacity of your tap water.

If you are adding the buffers to 100 liters of your tap water and you are wanting a 6dKH & 7.0 pH, these would be the approximate ratios:

Alkaline Buffer - 2.55 teaspoons or 17.8 grams
Acid Buffer - 1.28 teaspoons or 10.21 grams

        I hope this helps!
